Agricultural statistics show that if we cut back on our meat production by ten percent, that would free up enough land used for grazing and save enough grain used to feed the animals we slaughter to produce enough grain to feed the entire world. I am a strong promoter of the nude in art. I believe that the body is a beautiful thing, and that it does have a place in our culture. Similarly, I don't have a *problem* with pornography, though I cannot be listed as a promoter of it. What I cannot stand however, is pornography that tries to market itself as art. Poor quality webcam shots of nude females in very provocative poses, which only exist to 'get a rise' out of people, if you'll pardon the pun, irritate me. A friend showed me a gallery full of such images, and erotic though they were, they didn't belong. But the sad thing is, nobody cares. These non-art pieces, which are low-quality too boot have more favorites than any of my pieces will ever have. I don't pretend to be an amazing photographer, particularly good with any of the editting software (which is in severe need of an upgrade), or even a passable poet, but I feel insulted when pieces like that are lauded by young males with over-active libidos, who then encourage the poster of such images to continue posting them, while honest artists are trying to become better at what they do and gain a little recognition without needing to put photos of naked females in their gallery. I would love to post images like that, because I have some good ideas, but I don't want to NEED to post them to be recognized by the community. I want to have a little bit of recognition as an artist, and some guidance from better photographers before I start doing that so that I can actually produce pieces of artistic merit, and not masturbation fodder for adolescent males.
